The following article highlights the 4 major brands of RV Power Converters taken from the Radio Arizona RV Podcast Episode 42. At the end of the article you will find a link to the episode.
The 4 major brands of power converters found on most RV's today are Iota, Progressive Dynamics, Parallax and WFCO (Woofco). All 4 RV brands have their place in the market and each one can be considered a quality converter able to contend with today's power supply needs and battery types. I do not dig into batteries in this article, but I will do so in a future article and Podcast covering batteries.
Progressive Dynamics: PD9100 Series Overview: The Progressive Dynamics 9100 Series INTELI-POWER converters are UL listed for the US and Canada. They provide safe, reliable, filtered DC power to all Recreational Vehicle 12-Volt lighting and appliance circuits. The Inteli-Power converter also safely recharges and maintains the RV battery and has a two-year limited warranty.
The built in Total Charge Management System (TCMS) connector allows the RV manufacturer, dealer, or customer to easily add the optional Charge Wizard. The Charge Wizard is a microprocessor-controller that constantly monitors the RV battery voltage to determine if the battery requires a quick recharge, is fully charged and being used, or is fully charged and is in storage. The Charge Wizard then selects one of three charging voltages: 14.4, 13.6, or 13.2; and one of four operating modes (Boost, Normal, Storage or Desulfation) to properly re-charge or maintain the battery. Total Charge Management System (TCMS) Also know as the Charge Wizard is an add on, the converter is equipped with the connector only.
The PD9130A, PD9140A, PD9145A, PD9160A, PD9170A, PD9180A power converter is designed to provide reliable filtered DC power to all recreational vehicle 12-volt lighting and appliance circuits. The built-in Charge Wizard is a microprocessor-controlled system that constantly monitors the battery voltage and ensures a rapid; yet, safe, recharge. The Charge Wizard can select one of three charging voltages and one of four operating modes depending on the condition and use of the battery.
